1852 Baptist Church/Museum Restoration

The Lake Mills Aztalan Historical Society recently evaluated the condition of the 170 year old Baptist Church which was built in 1852 by pioneer settlers in Aztalan and was later restored and repurposed as the Lake Mills Aztalan Historical Museum in 1942. The overall evaluation is that the building, for it's age is in very good condition and with some regular maintenance will continue to stand strong at the corner of County Hwy Q and County Hwy B for many years to come. The brick church houses the majority of the artifact collections at the musuem and plays an important roll in sharing the history of both the ancient indigenous people and the pioneer settlers of the Aztalan and Lake Mills Area.  The LMAHS Board has selected Holton Brothers, Inc. of Grafton, WI to complete the maintenance at the estimated cost of $21,120 which includes tuck pointing of brick masonry, replacement of severely damaged and spalled brick masonry, sill replacement for all 8 windows with limestone sills as the building originally had. We are seeking support of a minimum of $10,000 in donations for this project from the public and in grants for the project.

Photos below show some of the areas deterioration in need of repair.
